IPC/WHMA-A-620, Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies, is the first industry consensus standard for cable and wire harness fabrication and installation, developed with the support of the Wire Harness Manufacturers Association (WHMA).  Classes of products are defined and include criteria for Acceptable, Process Indicator and Defect conditions to support the collection of visual quality acceptability requirements for each class.

It is a prerequisite of the Hands-On that candidates have earned their IPC/WHMA-A-620, Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies, certification.

This advanced practical course builds on the IPC/WHMA-A-620 standard, focusing on the hands-on assembly and inspection of cable and wire harnesses. Participants will develop skills in soldering, crimping, splicing, shielding, and harness routing to meet high-reliability and space application requirements.

IPC-A-610, Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies, is the most widely used specification published by IPC with an international reputation as THE source for end-product acceptance criteria in both consumer and high-reliability electronic assemblies.  A comprehensive and technical program, this certification will improve candidates’ accuracy of ‘discrimination’ between an ‘acceptable’ and ‘non-conforming’ electronic assembly per the IPC-A-610 standard, leading to continuous improvement in product quality and reliability.

The J-STD-001 “Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies” has emerged as the preeminent authority for electronics assembly manufacturing. The standard describes materials, methods and verification criteria for producing high quality soldered interconnections. The standard emphasizes process control and sets industry-consensus requirements for a broad range of electronic products.

The J-STD-001 Space and Military Applications Electronics Hardware Addendum is an additional module that extends IPC J-STD-001 to ensure the reliability of soldered electronic assemblies in low/zero atmosphere, extreme temperature variation and high vibration environments.
